“Jesus answered him(Nicodemus): ` I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless a person is born again[reborn from above-spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified], he cannot ever see and experience the kingdom of God…and unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot ever enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.`” John 3:3,5,6
What am I about to share, to some of you will be new and shocking, and to some of you it will be a conformation of what you’ve already understood. We all know and speak that the church began on the day of the Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended on earth. Once I heard God saying to me: ” Jesus begot the church, but the Holy Spirit birthed the church.”
Because of this I can freely call myself a child of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps for some of you this is way too much to digest, but take another glance on the verses written above. Jesus hands out a statement that is about to reveal a great mystery. We must be born again from above so we can see the kingdom of God, and we must be born of the water and the Holy Spirit to enter this Kingdom. And He continues with an unusual statement: “What is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit, is spirit.” There it is! The moment I want to emphasize. We are born of the Spirit of the Living God.
The reason why I want to point this out is to understand the magnitude of the fact Who is the One dwelling in us. Perhaps we haven’t heard this terminology before, but that is the truth: the Holy Spirit birthed us and therefore He has the right to take care of us, to make us grow in maturity, to lead us into the will of the Father and make us Christlike. No one else-apart from Him has the ability and the might to do that.
So, to know the Holy Spirit is the excellent way to become like Christ.
