I’ve heard many saying that it’s not us building the church, but Christ is. They take the verse from Matthew 16:18 out of context.(” I will build My church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”). Personally, I don’t agree with this statement.

Listen! Jesus already sees His church perfect! He sees His church spotless, without any blemish. He spoke prophetically from the eternal Godly intention and purpose.

Now, it’s up to us whether we’ll agree with His spoken word or we’ll continue in our attitude that the church still needs some sprucing  up a bit. We see the faults, failures, all the imperfections and negative things, NOT Jesus! And this is the challenge set before us: Jesus Christ sees perfect church, but are we willing to look at the church through His eyes of abundant grace or not?! Do we agree with the Holy Spirit and His perfect work or do we pass on judgement and disapproval?! This matter is of a paramount importance for it will help us to keep on seeing the church as the brightest light in this world and in our lives. So, you see, Jesus is not the one building the church, we are!

Many verses in the Scripture speak of how we ought to encourage each other, build up one another, submit to one another…why? Jesus finished everything, He perfected the church once and for all, so we encourage each other and build up one another in His finished work.

In 2 Cor. 13:10 Paul wrote: “I write these things while I am absent from you, that when I come to you, I may not have to deal sharply in my use of the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not tearing down.” If we hold on to the attitude of the Holy Spirit, wanting to build the church, we will never tear it down, because we have agreed with His word. We will cooperate with Him Who sees the church perfect and serve in the finished work of Christ.
