The spirit of religion and the spirit of poverty go together hand in hand. The more religious we are, the more that spirit steals from us and impoverishes us. Have you noticed that the parts of the earth which are stricken with extreme poverty are extremely religious?!
And contrary to this, here’s God’s desire and reality: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him Who called us to His own glory and excellence” 2 Peter 1:3
Now, should we interpret this verse differently?! That God gave us the Holy Spirit partially, so when we earn and deserve enough He will give us all of the Holy Spirit? Then it will be our wage by the deeds and not by grace.
I just want to shutter to pieces this part in our minds: we cannot afford the “luxury” of thinking that we are in desperate need and we should earnestly pray so God can grant us our petitions. No! No! If we say that Jesus lives in us through His dwelling Holy Spirit, then there’s not a single thing we are lacking in our lives. All of what we need has been already granted to us. This is the Holy Spirit in us.
