I have heard many believers teach warnings from the Old Testament against the Church today, taking out of context the words from Acts 13:40 “Watch out then, that what is spoken of in the Prophets may not come upon you:`Look you scoffers, wonder and perish for I am doing a work in your days that you would never believe even if someone told you.`”
Sadly the focus here isn’t the work of Christ on which the church is built on, but rather judgement and punishment for the believers if they don’t fulfill the Law.
Listen now! For those who are not in Christ, this is a legitimate warning(not that God will punish them, but the very condition of not being with Christ and in Him is punishment in itself), those who haven’t received His grace and imparted righteousness. The word of God is transcendent and therefore active.
But I want to emphasize the encouragement in the previous verse from Acts 13..and that is Acts 13:39-
“And through Him everyone who believes is absolved(cleared and freed) from every charge from which he could not be justified and freed by the Law of Moses and given right standing with God.”
So, the great news is that when we are in Christ, the Law and its requirements can’t touch us. We are protected by Christ’s righteousness and nothing else can shake us. For us all we know is Christ and His truth that He rose from the dead for our justification.
