“Now this I say and testify in the Lord that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds…but to be renewed in the Spirit of your minds and to put on the new self-created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” -Ephesians 4:17, 23-24
Our mind releases an atmosphere wherever we are with whom whatever we are. That’s why when we meet with people almost every time we bear a witness in our spirit of the atmosphere around them. This atmosphere, whether pleasant or unpleasant it’s created through our willingness to be teachable and submissive to the fivefold ministry in the church i.e people in the church who are positioned and operate in these five offices.
The obedience or disobedience for that matter has one starting point: our mindset.
That’s why Paul exhorts the believers to be renewed in the spirit of their minds. If the Holy Spirit brings and releases the presence of God which ministers to others, so it is with the spirit of our mind which will release an atmosphere that it may or may not minister to others-it all depends on the thought life of the believer.
Disobedience leads to a state of numbness in which the believer becomes the ‘master’ of his own life-very dangerous and corporately not beneficial.
Obedience, on the other hand, is the key to the changes we desire. And what kind of obedience?! Obedience to the faith!
We ought to live and think through the initiative of faith. This faith in us as a gift of Jesus speaks the truth of God and actually its goal is to lead us to a place where we’ll witness the manifestation through its visible deeds.
We are able to taste faith both directly and indirectly. The first instance is when our spiritual ears have been sharpened and we are able to hear directly from the Holy Spirit. The second is for the hearers of our words.
Both are activated when we grow in our faith i.e our understanding of the faith in us.
